The Asian region is very strongly differentiated. South Korea's KOSPI plunged and was the deepest decline in the region, caused by a wave of sell-off in chip stocks after SK Hynix's latest quarterly operating profit did not meet analysts' forecasts, leading to concerns about the huge scale of investment that businesses are pouring into artificial intelligence. Samsung Electronics also fell deeply during the session. Japan's Nikkei 225 fell as investors reacted to the earthquake in the Kyushu region. On the positive side, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose the best in the region, while China's Shanghai Composite only inched slightly.
