- US stocks turned lower on Wednesday (August 4), after profit from a major auto company and a lower-than-expected private-sector jobs report. Ending the session, the Dow Jones fell 323.73 points (or 0.9%) to near the session low of 34,792.67 points. The S&P 500 fell 0.5% to 4,402.68 points, while the Nasdaq Composite added 0.1% to 14,780.50 points. The decline in the overall market occurred after the S&P 500 closed Tuesday's session (August 3) at a record high.
