US stocks sank before Friday’s jobs data amid concern that a deeper recession could be in store with the Federal Reserve expected to hold rates at a higher level for longer to tame inflation. The S&P 500 saw its fourth straight decline, dragged down by big tech as treasury yields climbed. Apple Inc. tumbled over 4% and Amazon.com Inc. suffered its longest slide since 2019.

The central banks around the world immediately adjusted the interest rates immediately after the announcement from Fed. In Hong Kong, the Hong Kong monetary authority raised interest rates for the sixth time this year. The Bank of England has also just decided to raise interest rates by 0.75%, the highest level in 33 years, to control inflation forecast to reach a record high of about 11%.
