The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite lost ground to start March after a report showed signs of inflation in manufacturing raising concerns the Federal Reserve will have to raising interest rates more than hoped. The Institute for Supply Management's survey showed U.S. manufacturing contracted for a fourth straight month in February, while a measure of prices paid by manufacturers rebounded to 51.3 points in February from 44.5 points in January.

The dollar depreciated yesterday against other currencies that benefited more from strong China manufacturing activity data, while the euro's rally continued its trend after Germany inflation surged last month. Besides, the yuan also appreciated strongly after China's manufacturing activity expanded at the fastest rate in a decade.
