Although the market started the session with a gap of 5 points after the National Assembly announced the new President. However, the market quickly weakened and VNIndex dropped since 11am. The oil and gas group was the focus of the market today led by BSR shares increasing by 9.1%. NVB shares rose to the ceiling, despite the banking sector's decline.

Asia-Pacific markets close mixedy, following a slew of economic data out of Japan. Most Asian markets were lower. In terms of trade, Japan's exports in April recorded a year-on-year growth of 8.3%, surpassing the 7.3% rise seen in March. However, this fell short of economists' expectations of an 11.1% increase. As a result, Japan's trade balance showed a larger deficit than anticipated, reaching 462.5 billion yen (USD2.96 billion), exceeding Reuters' forecast of 339.5 billion yen.

Today, the State Bank simultaneously increased interest rates on the OMO channel and T-bill interest rates. Specifically, SBV increased the interest rate on the OMO channel to 4.5%/year and pumped out more than VND24,000 billion today. Compared to the previous session, the OMO lending scale has increased more than 9 times and the lending interest rate has increased by 0.25 percentage points. This is the second time SBV has increased OMO interest rates within the past month.
