VNIndex started the session quite negatively when it opened with a gap down more than 2 points. The recovery mainly occurred in the afternoon session, with banking stocks returning with the lead of TCB, pushing VNIndex to close near the session high - the highest closing level since the session on May 6, 2022.

Japanese stocks led declines in Asia-Pacific markets, after U.S. President Donald Trump made it clear that tariffs on Mexico and Canada would go into effect as planned. Chinese and Hong Kong markets were mixed with investors shrugging off a new U.S-China trade spat and focused instead on the upcoming annual parliamentary sessions to gauge Beijing's policy direction. China swiftly retaliated against fresh U.S. tariffs, announcing 10%-15% hikes to import levies covering a range of American agricultural and food products, and placing 25 U.S. firms under export and investment restrictions.
