S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite both closed at new all-time highs on Tuesday (August 12) after a weaker-than-expected inflation report boosted expectations that the Federal Reserve could cut interest rates next month. Specifically, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for July 2025 rose 2.7% year-over-year, below the Dow Jones forecast of a 2.8% increase. Core CPI climbed 3.1% from a year earlier, slightly above the projected 3% rise.
