U.S. stocks rose on Tuesday (August 26), supported by investor optimism ahead of Nvidia’s upcoming earnings report, despite President Donald Trump’s dismissal of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. In response to her removal, Cook stated that the President had neither the authority nor the legal basis to fire her and announced plans to sue Trump.

Global crude oil prices slipped nearly 1% despite Ukrainian attacks disrupting several Russian refineries, forcing Moscow to adjust its western port export plans by about 200,000 barrels per day. Additionally, the possibility of the U.S. expanding sanctions on Russian energy added further supply-side pressure.

However, proprietary trading desks of securities firms unexpectedly reversed course after nine consecutive sessions of net buying, recording net sales of VND 348 billion yesterday. The most notable was a net sell of VND 663 billion in VPB shares.
