Asian stock markets were awash in red today, mainly pressured by Technology stocks. Notably, geopolitical tensions between Japan and China also weighed on sentiment, sending Japan’s Nikkei 225 index plunging more than 3% to 48,702.98 points. Meanwhile, the 20-year Japanese government bond yield climbed to 2.78%, the highest level since July 1999.

Nam A Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Nam A Bank) has simultaneously raised deposit interest rates across all terms, with the highest increase reaching 0.85% per year. This marks the first time in more than seven months that the bank has raised savings rates. According to the newly updated online savings interest rate table for individual customers with end-of-term interest payment, the 1-month term rate increased sharply by 0.8 percentage points, to 4.6% per year. For the 2-month term, the increase was even higher — up 0.85 percentage points, while terms from 3–5 months rose 0.75 percentage points. Accordingly, interest rates for terms from 2–5 months were all pushed up to 4.75% per year — the ceiling rate set by the State Bank of Vietnam for terms under six months.
