Asian stock markets mostly rose today, led by Japan’s Nikkei 225 as Japan’s core consumer price index in December increased by 2.3% year-on-year. As a result, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.68% to 50,750.39 points, while South Korea’s Kospi also rose 0.51% to 4,129.68 points.

Gold and silver prices surged simultaneously to record highs as geopolitical tensions escalated and the U.S. dollar weakened. In the spot market, gold prices at one point jumped as much as 1.2%, surpassing 4,530 USD/ounce. In the domestic market, gold prices also rebounded after a cooling session. SJC gold re-established a historical peak at 159.2 million VND/tael, while plain gold rings at Bao Tin Minh Chau soared by nearly VND1 million.
