- Economic growth boomed in the third quarter, US stocks recovered after the worst sell-off session in 2 months. The S&P 500 rose 1.2% to 3,310.11 points. The Nasdaq Composite rose 1.6 percent and closed at 11,185.59 points. The Dow Jones industrial average closed above 139.16 points, or 0.5%, at 26,659.11 points. Thursday session marked the Dow Jones' first gain after five consecutive days of decline, while the S&P 500 saw three days of negative trading.
