- Ending session 2/1, US stocks declined in the context of investors concerned about the number of Covid-19 infections worldwide and the "sprint" election in Georgia. The Dow Jones industrial average closed 382.59 points lower, or 1.3%, at 30,223.89. Sometimes during the session, the Dow dropped more than 700 points. Monday session marked the first new year opening session of Dow Jones since 2016. The S&P 500 lost 1.5% to 3,700.65 points. The Nasdaq Composite also fell 1.5 percent, ending the day at 12,698.45 points. Both the Dow and the S&P 500 hit record highs at the open before trading negative. This is the biggest one-day sell-off since October 28 for the Dow and S&P 500, while the Nasdaq's worst drop since December 9.
