Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell left little doubt that he’s prepared to push rates as high as needed to stamp out inflation. Addressing reporters Wednesday after the Fed raised rates by 75 bsp for the fourth time in a row, Powell said “incoming data since our last meeting suggests that the ultimate level of interest rates will be higher than previously expected.” This statement caused the DJIA to drop more than 500 points by the end of the session.

At the end of a two-day policy meeting, the US Federal Reserve (Fed) announced that it would continue to raise interest rates by 0.75%. Accordingly, the US central bank's benchmark interest rate is fluctuating at 3.75% - 4%, the highest since January 2008.
