Wall Street gyrated to end sharply lower on Wednesday after the U.S. Federal Reserve delivered a widely expected 25 basis point policy hike, while hinting that it was on the verge of pausing future increases in view of recent turmoil in the financial sector. In the Fed's statement, the members of the Federal Open Markets Committee (FOMC) said some additional tightening might be possible, but suggested it was on the verge of pausing future hikes in view of recent turmoil in the financial sector.

Interbank interest rates have fallen to the lowest level within the last 5 months, while deposit rates on market 1 also dropped sharply, showing that banks' liquidity was quite redundant. In early March, SBV Governor Nguyen Thi Hong said that the liquidity of the system was abundant again, exceeding about VND50,000 billion compared to the reserve requirement.
