Following the negative performance of US stocks last night, the Vietnamese market was under selling pressure from the beginning of the morning session, focusing on VN30 stocks, especially banking stocks. VIC shares increased by 1.7%, unexpectedly becoming a pillar for the market today.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 marked its seventh straight day of losses to plunge 3.28%, leading declines among Asian indexes as the region saw a broad sell-off after Wall Street tumbled overnight. Reuters reported that the Bank of Japan is expected to discuss a rate hike at its monetary policy meeting next week on July 30 and 31, as well as detailing a plan to halve its bond buying.

Since the beginning of July, many banks have simultaneously increased the savings interest rates for many terms. According to data from WiChart, the 12-month deposit interest rate of the group of joint-stock commercial banks (including MB, ACB, TCB and VPB) has increased by 0.2 percentage points compared to the bottom, to 4.55%/year, while the interest rate of the group of smaller commercial banks has also increased by 0.2 percentage points to 4.72%/year.

According to statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the total number of domestic passengers is estimated at 37 million in the first 6 months of the year. Of which, Vietjet Air accounts for 44% of the market share, Vietnam Airlines (42%), Bamboo Airways (7%), Vietravel Airlines (3%), Pacific Airlines and VASCO account for a total of 4%.
