Markets in the Asia-Pacific region were mostly higher, led by Japan’s Nikkei 225, which climbed 1.8%, powered by utilities and healthcare stocks. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index shed 0.3% after real estate firm Kaisa announced a debt restructuring agreement. Mainland Chinese stocks plunged as the central bank left benchmark lending rates unchanged.

The exchange rate has been continuously falling sharply in recent days. On the interbank market, the exchange rate closed yesterday at 24,974 VND/USD, down VND87 compared to the end of last week. This is the first time since April 2024 that the interbank exchange rate has traded below VND25,000.
