The S&P 500 and Nasdaq ended sharply lower on Thursday, pressured by an over 8% plunge in chipmaker Nvidia, which closed at its lowest level in a month after its quarterly report failed to rekindle Wall Street's AI rally, while investors focused on data pointing to a cooling U.S. economy. Notably, President Donald Trump announced that an additional 10% tariff would be imposed on imports from China starting March 4.

Oil prices rose more than 2% on Thursday as supply concerns resurfaced after U.S. President Donald Trumprevoked a licence granted to U.S. oil major Chevron (CVX.N), opens new tab to operate in Venezuela. Meanwhile, investors were still keeping an eye on signs of a potential peace deal in Ukraine, which could result in higher Russian oil flows.
