Asian stocks tumbled into the red following President Trump’s tariff announcement. The Nikkei 225 led the decline, dropping 990 points (-2.8%) to 34,735.93. In South Korea, the Kospi initially fell over 3% before narrowing its losses to 0.8%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index opened sharply lower compared to the previous session’s close but saw a slight recovery, ending at 22,849.81 points, down 352.72 points (-1.5%).

President Trump’s tariff decision has had a strong impact on commodity and currency markets, with global gold prices continuing to break historical records, reaching nearly 3,168 USD/Ounce. Since the beginning of the year, global gold prices have increased by around 20%. Domestically, the USD exchange rate in banks surged, surpassing 26,000 VND/USD in some places, marking the highest level ever recorded. Additionally, the Japanese yen saw a sharp rise in banks, with exchange rates ranging from 171.68 to 173.32 VND/JPY.
