Asian stock markets rallied on the afternoon of July 1 as optimism grew that countries would reach a trade deal with the U.S. However, Japanese stocks moved in the opposite direction after President Donald Trump criticized Japan over issues related to rice, cars, and warned of new tariffs. The Hong Kong market was closed today for a holiday.
