Asian stock markets ended mixed as the U.S. dollar strengthened ahead of key central bank meetings later this week. Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell sharply by more than 1.5% to 42,888.55 points, while China’s Shanghai Composite gained over 1% to 3,766.21 points.

Today (August 20), the State Bank of Vietnam set the central exchange rate at 25,263 VND/USD, up 8 dong from yesterday, marking the highest level since the mechanism was introduced. With a ±5% trading band, commercial banks are allowed to trade USD within the range of VND24,000 – VND26,526. Notably, the USD/VND exchange rate hit a new all-time high of VND26,355, equivalent to a 3.4% increase since the beginning of the year.
