Asian stock markets were mixed today following news of a U.S. government shutdown after budget talks collapsed. Specifically, South Korea’s Kospi rose more than 0.9%, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 lost 0.9%. Notably, Vietnam’s September PMI was announced at 50.4 points. Although unchanged from August, the number of new orders has rebounded.

Following news of the U.S. government shutdown, global gold prices surged nearly 1% today to hit a new all-time high of 3,895 USD/oz. In the domestic market, SJC gold bars climbed to a record 138 million VND/tael, while plain rings and 24K jewelry also gained between 200,000 and 800,000 VND/tael, setting new highs.

VJC: Vietjet Aviation JSC has successfully issued VND 1,000 billion worth of bonds at an interest rate of 9.72% per year. The proceeds are expected to be used to redeem an earlier bond issuance carrying a minimum interest rate of 11% per year, which was issued more than a year ago.
