Starting from January 1, 2026, commercial banks will no longer accept passports as identification for making payment transactions, withdrawals, or using cards for Vietnamese citizens. Accordingly, to avoid transaction disruptions, people are advised to proactively contact their bank branches or transaction offices to update their information to chip-based Citizen ID cards (CCCD) or electronic ID cards. This change is mandatory, as from January 1, 2026, the banking system will only allow transactions once customers have completed identity verification and biometric data matching.
