U.S. stocks gained on Friday (December 5), with the S&P 500 rising for the fourth consecutive session to near record levels, as weaker-than-expected inflation data strengthened expectations that the Federal Reserve (Fed) will cut interest rates next week. Specifically, the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index for September increased 2.8% year-on-year, lower than the 2.9% recorded in August.
