Asian markets closed mixed as automotive and technology stocks rose after Nvidia announced positive revenue forecasts for key chip products. Memory maker Samsung Electronics, a longtime partner of Nvidia, rose 2.76%. Taiwan's TSMC, the world's largest chipmaker and Nvidia's advanced AI GPU maker, rose 1.36%.

U.S. crude oil prices rose sharply again on Tuesday morning (March 17) after falling about 3% the previous day, as some ships crossed the important Strait of Hormuz, although U.S. allies rejected President Donald Trump's call to support the reopening of the strait.
