US stocks reacted positively to the signals from the US-China summit as well as the latest business results. Cisco shares soared 13% after the software giant announced third-quarter results and forecast to beat Wall Street expectations, and announced it would cut nearly 4,000 jobs. Iran was a major topic of discussion during the summit between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping on May 14. The two sides agreed that the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened, according to a White House official.

World gold prices rebounded in the morning session on Friday (May 15) after falling slightly the previous day under pressure from rising oil prices and a stronger dollar following the news that an Indian cargo ship was sunk and another was seized off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the journey towards Iranian waters.
