US stocks recovered in the session on August 19 after the country's Treasury Department announced a plan to double the size of long-term government bond buybacks. The Ministry of Finance announced that it will at least double the scale of long-term government debt buybacks. This extended buyback program targets 10-20-year and 20-30-year tenors. Stocks that benefited from low interest rates recorded positive results, with Lowe's and Home Depot both rising around 2%.

Crude oil prices were steady in the morning session on Thursday (August 20) after closing at a nearly four-week high the previous day as investors feared escalating tensions in the Middle East after the UAE decided to suspend all financial and economic transactions with Iran.

On August 19, VN-Index fell 5.33 points to 1,726.69 points with 220 stocks falling more than twice as much as 97 gainers on HoSE, VCB and CTG alone took away nearly two points of the index, the VN30 basket was almost stationary with support from LPB and VNM.
