- US stock indexes fell back on Thursday (July 8) due to concerns about the global economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. US stocks were on fire as Japan declared a state of emergency in Tokyo for the upcoming Olympic Games and as countries deal with a resurgence in the number of Covid-19 infections caused by new variants. At the end of the session, the Dow Jones index dropped 259.86 points (or 0.75%) to 34,421.93 points. The S&P 500 fell 0.86% to 4,320.82 points. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 0.72% to 14,559.78 points.
