- The S&P 500 index retreated from record highs on Thursday (August 26), as investors awaited more details on the Federal Reserve's (Fed) plan to cut monetary stimulus from The annual meeting of the Central Bank on August 27. At the end of the session, the Dow Jones index dropped 192.38 points to 35,213.12 points. The S&P 500 fell 0.5% to 4,470.00. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 0.6 percent to 14,945.81 points.
