US stocks fell for a third straight session on Thursday (August 17), as investors reviewed the latest round of earnings reports and economic data, and as bond yields rose to new highs. Yields on 10-year US government bonds hit their highest levels since October 2022 on Thursday. Interest rates may continue to climb after the report of the US Federal Reserve's July meeting released on Thursday showed that the central bank remained concerned about the risks of an increase in inflation.
