The S&P 500 index fell on Tuesday (January 2), the first trading session of 2024, as bond yields were higher and investors took some profits after an unexpectedly strong 2023. Apple shares dropped more than 3% after Barclays downgraded this company to a low rating. On the other hand, the Dow Jones remained elevated as defensive stocks such as Johnson & Johnson and Merck consolidated.
