The DJIA closed fractionally higher on Thursday, stretching its winning streak to five sessions despite light trading volumes and rising U.S. Treasury yields weighing on some of the dominant technology megacaps. Six of the megacaps fell, with Tesla leading decliners with a 1.8% fall. The outlier was Apple, rising 0.3% and continuing to edge closer to becoming the first company in the world to hit a market value of USD4 trillion.

Gold prices rose on Thursday, driven by safe-haven demand in light trading after the Christmas holiday. Oil edged lower as the US dollar’s strength offset hopes for additional fiscal stimulus in China, the world’s biggest oil importer.

The market's upward momentum slowed down after the FTD session. The banking sector continued to be the pillar that helped the market not fall deeply, with STB +2.3%, VIB +2.9%, MBB +1.8%. Proprietary traders net bought VND807 billion, mainly including ACB VND257 billion, SHS VND198 billion, VDS VND88 billion.
