European stocks closed flat on Monday, having earlier hit a three-month high on expectation Donald Trump would refrain from increasing tariffs on U.S. trading partners as soon as he is inaugurated as president. London's blue-chip FTSE 100 hit a record high for the second session in a row as investors awaited Donald Trump's return to the White House for fresh insights on his stance on tariffs and international relations. The U.S. stock markets were closed on Monday, in commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
