U.S. stocks closed higher for a third straight day with a solid boost from technology shares as investors parsed a mixed bag of corporate earnings and watched for signs of progress in the U.S.-China tariff stand-off. In after hours session, shares of Alphabet jumped about 5% after its first-quarter results topped Wall Street’s expectations. By contrast, Intel shares fell more than 5% after offering disappointing guidance and revealing that it plans to slash operational and capital expenses.
