U.S. stocks initially rose on Thursday after President Donald Trump announced a day earlier that he would impose a 100% tariff on imported semiconductors. The news sent shares of major chipmakers such as Advanced Micro Devices soaring 5.7%, while the VanEck Semiconductor ETF advanced more than 1%. However, the market gave up most of its gains by the close as investors locked in profits following a strong rally over the past week.
