U.S. stocks were mixed on Tuesday night (September 3) amid economic concerns. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite climbed more than 1%, supported by a 9.1% surge in Alphabet after a federal judge ruled on September 2 that Google could keep its Chrome browser. However, worries about the U.S. economy grew after new job openings data showed a steep decline to levels not seen since the Covid-19 pandemic. This was the main reason the Dow Jones closed in the red.

Global gold prices continued to hit record highs overnight, with each ounce climbing to nearly USD3,580. The rally was fueled by reports of a weakening U.S. labor market, which strengthened expectations that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates this month. Market odds of a Fed rate cut now stand near 100%.
