U.S. stocks declined on Wednesday (October 22) as the latest developments in Washington heightened investor concerns about U.S.–China trade relations. Brent crude oil prices jumped 5% on Wednesday evening (October 22) after the Trump administration imposed new sanctions on two of Russia’s largest oil companies, citing Moscow’s lack of serious commitment to the peace process aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
