The Dow Jones index increased on Wednesday (May 1), after US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell virtually ruled out the central bank's next move could be to raise interest rates, allaying investor concerns that the Fed is losing control of persistent inflation. However, the overall market declined as the negative in chip manufacturing company stocks put pressure on the S&P 500 index.
