The Dow Jones index closed Friday (May 17) above the important milestone of 40,000 points for the first time in history, one day after recording this peak in the previous trading session. Walmart and Caterpillar shares both rose 1%, leading the Dow Jones index. Chubb and Valero Energy shares jumped more than 3% and 4%, respectively, being the strongest gainers in the S&P 500.
