The market witnessed a sharp decline on the first day of August. Despite slightly increased in the beginning, VN-Index quickly weakened and fell sharply with large volume in the afternoon session. All industry groups ended in red, with the most negative being the financial services and chemicals groups.

The Asian markets had mixed performance following FED's move to cut interest rates in September. Japan's Nikkei 225 index fell 2.49%, dragged the real estate group. On the other hand, South Korea's Kospi index rose 0.25% after the country's July export data recorded the fastest increase in six months.

SBV announced the central exchange rate at 24,245 VND/USD today, slid VND10 compared to July 31. At commercial banks, the exchange rate also dropped sharply by VND30-50 in both buying and selling directions.
