The tech-heavy Nasdaq led all three major U.S. stock indexes to a higher close, with help from Nvidia (+4.3%), Microsoft (+0.7%). Advanced Micro Devices rose 4.5% after the chipmaker said it plans to acquire server maker ZT Systems for USD4.9 billion to expand its artificial intelligence portfolio to better compete with Nvidia.

The U.S dollar fell to a seven-month low as traders awaited the Fed's decision on interest rate cuts. In the domestic market, the interbank exchange rate on August 19 decreased sharply by VND87 compared to the end of last week, down to 24,974 VND/USD.
