All three major U.S. stock indexes closed higher on Wednesday with a boost from the technology sector offsetting investor disappointment at an early morning inflation report. Earlier, the Labor Department reported the CPI rose 0.2% last month, in line with July. Core CPI, excluding volatile food and energy components, rose 0.3% on a monthly basis, exceeding economist expectations for a 0.2% rise.

The US dollar traded near a four-week high versus the euro on Thursday after signs of some stickiness in U.S. inflation. Oil prices were flat as concerns about lower demand erased the gains from the previous session.
