Wall Street's main indexes closed higher on Thursday after the latest inflation data reinforced expectations for a 25-basis point rate cut by the Federal Reserve. The producer price index (PPI) for final demand rose 0.2% in August, compared with estimates for 0.1% growth. Moderna shares finished down 12.4% after hitting its lowest level since November. The vaccine maker had forecast sales of USD2.5 billion to USD3.5 billion next year, below analysts' estimates.

Gold prices rose more than 1% to hit a record high on Thursday, helped by expectations of an interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve next week. Oil prices rose on Friday, extending a rally sparked by output disruptions in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, where Hurricane Francine forced producers to evacuate platforms before it hit the coast of Louisiana.
