Specifically, U.S. inflation in May came in lower than expected, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rising by just 0.1%, below economists' forecast of 0.2%. On the trade front, the U.S. may impose a 55% tariff on Chinese imports, including a base rate of 10%, 20% for activities related to fentanyl smuggling, and a 25% continuation of previous tariffs. In retaliation, China will impose a 10% tariff on U.S. imports. Additionally, rising tensions in the Middle East have further weighed on sentiment.
