U.S. stocks turned sharply lower after bond yields continued to rise, despite the Treasury Department's efforts to buy back long-term debt. U.S. Treasury yields turned upward again, with the 10-year yield climbing back to record levels just before the Treasury Department announced it would at least double the size of its purchases of 10, 20- and 30-year debt in the next few months. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the actual debt buyback could be greater than the $4 billion already announced.
