KRX and Derivatives Trading

Question 1. Do I need to deposit money into VSDC to place a new derivative position order?

To place a new derivative position order, you need to deposit money into your derivative account at Pinetree. Based on VSDC’s margin call notification, Pinetree will automatically transfer the outstanding margin to VSDC for you at the end of the trading day. If you have a margin shortfall, the deadline to make a supplementary margin deposit is 9:30 AM on the next trading day.

Question 2. At the end of the trading day, I received a margin call notification. Can I close my position the next morning so that my account is not frozen?

At the end of day T0, VSDC will notify you of the margin requirement on your derivative account and check your T0 margin deposit obligation on day T+1. Closing your position on day T+1 will not change the margin amount that VSDC requires you to top up. By 9:30 AM on day T+1, if VSDC finds that the margin requirement is still not met, your account will be frozen according to regulations.

Question 3. My derivative account has been frozen due to a margin call. What do I need to do to resolve this immediately within the day?

When your derivative account is frozen at 9:30 AM on day T+1 due to insufficient margin for day T0, you need to deposit additional margin before 9:30 AM on day T+1 to have your account status returned to normal trading during the trading session. If you make a supplementary margin deposit after 9:30 AM, your account will be released for normal trading after 2:00 PM. If you close your position, your account will return to normal trading status at the end of T+1.

Question 4. My derivative account has been frozen due to a margin call. Can I still place orders?

You will not be able to place online orders when your account is suspended from trading. If you wish to close opposing positions, please contact Pinetree for assistance. Pinetree will use close-out orders to reduce positions in your account.

Question 5. I deposited money into my derivative account at Pinetree for trading and did not deposit margin into VSDC. If Pinetree supports depositing the margin into VSDC at the end of the day, will I incur any fees?

Pinetree only supports customers in depositing the required margin into VSDC. Customers will need to pay a deposit/withdrawal fee of VND 5,500 per transaction to the payment bank, VietinBank.

Question 6. I deposited money into my derivative account at Pinetree and did not deposit it into VSDC. I opened a new position and closed it on the same day. Can I withdraw the money from my derivative account at Pinetree on the same day?

You can withdraw money from your derivative account at Pinetree on the same day if you open and close the position on the same day. However, if your account has a loss or fees to be paid, Pinetree will hold the sufficient amount to cover your obligations.

Question 7. I have closed all my positions, but why can’t I still withdraw money?

VSDC checks and finalizes the margin obligations at the end of each day (around 4:30 PM). If you close your positions during the day, VSDC will update the reduced margin requirement at the end of the day. However, the cut-off time for withdrawals at VSDC is 4:30 PM, so you can withdraw money from VSDC to your derivative account at Pinetree on the next working day.

Question 8. Has the margin requirement for one derivative contract changed compared to the old system?

Currently, the margin requirement for one derivative contract has not changed compared to the old system. Pinetree will notify customers if there are any adjustments.

Question 9. Does Pinetree support advance margin payment at VSDC after a position has been closed?

Currently, Pinetree does not support advance margin payment. Pinetree will notify customers when this service is available.
